Walter A. Wright Award
The Walter A. Wright award was created to honor Walter Wright, “a passionate defender of the mediation process and a fierce advocate for quality and ethical mediations and dispute resolution for all backgrounds and cultures.” Walter inspired the mediation community in Texas and throughout the world as teacher, colleague, and friend. He was calm, wise, patient, and caring. Walter’s depth of knowledge about mediation and the law was profound. Yet, he was humble and ever willing to share his knowledge. He was always there – ready and willing to serve. One colleague said, “Walter will forever be one of the best human beings I have ever known.” Another added, “Walter Wright was one of the most kind, thoughtful, decent, and caring human beings I ever had the pleasure of meeting and knowing.”
A former student described him as “a great teacher, a humble man, and an epitome of kindness… [He] gave us all a teacher could give his students, with enthusiasm and kindness, and that gave me the courage to face my mediation practice without hesitation.” Another student added, “His unwavering support enabled me to graduate, and his quiet belief in me gave me the strength to persevere.”
This award is named in Walter’s honor in recognition of his unparalleled legacy as a beloved and bilingual educator and mediator, brilliant mentor, extraordinary colleague, fierce advocate, passionate defender, inspirational leader, and champion of mediation ethics.

A mediator since 1982, Susanne was active in the Texas mediation community as early as 1982.
